Dwarka, May 12th, 2023 - As students face the challenges and pressures of the exam season, SAM Workshops, a youth empowerment initiative by DJJS, has taken proactive steps to help students manage their stress levels. In line with their commitment to student well-being, SAM International School recently hosted a 'Yoga @ SAM' session in their newly constructed Assembly Hall. The session aimed to provide students with effective techniques for stress management.

On a delightful morning, students eagerly gathered in the sunlit hall to participate in the yoga session. Certified yoga trainers, Ms. Neha and Ms. Vatika, both SAM Volunteers, led the session. Drawing from their extensive experience of over three years in teaching various forms of yoga, including hatha yoga, ashtanga vinyasa, and yoga therapy, they brought their expertise to the students. These dedicated instructors have received certifications from the prestigious Morarji Desai Institute of Yoga.

The yoga session began with a warm welcome from the SAM trainers, who introduced the students to the special occasion of "Yoga @ SAM" day. A video presentation showcased the wide range of youth-centric initiatives undertaken by SAM Workshops since its establishment in 2008. The session then commenced with rhythmic chanting of shlokas, setting a serene and focused atmosphere.

To start their physical practice, the students engaged in a five-minute warm-up routine, which included popular asanas such as Trikonasana (Triangle pose), Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose), and Padahastasana (Forward Bend pose). The trainers provided clear guidance and demonstrated each posture for the students' benefit.

As the energy levels rose, the yoga trainers introduced partner yoga asanas to the students. The pairs enthusiastically participated in various poses, such as Partner Forward Fold, Seated Spinal Twist, Temple Pose, and Double Tree Pose. These activities were specifically designed to address the mounting exam pressure faced by students, which often leads to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as overeating, excessive social media use, a sedentary lifestyle, and excessive screen time. By providing alternative outlets for stress management, SAM Volunteers and school teachers worked collaboratively to guide the students toward healthier habits, enhancing their physical, mental, and social well-being.

Inspired by the SAM Volunteers and their teachers, the students displayed remarkable efforts and performed additional asanas, including a Surya Namaskar Marathon (Sun Salutation), Tadasana (Mountain pose), and Dhanurasana (Bow Pose).

After 45 minutes of practicing asanas, it was time to rejuvenate the mind. Sadhvi Ruchi Bharti Ji,  addressed the students, enlightening them on the significance of holistic health. She emphasized that yoga not only promotes physical fitness but also contributes to mental well-being. Quoting the phrase "शरीरमाद्यं खलु धर्म साधनम्," she conveyed that the body is an instrument for all good deeds. By mastering their minds, intellect, soul, and body, students can attain ultimate fitness across all dimensions of life. This holistic approach enables individuals to establish a deeper connection with themselves, leading to a more fulfilling and balanced life.

To commemorate the event, each student received a "SAMite" badge, serving as a reminder of their participation in the transformative Yoga @ SAM session. The SAM camera volunteering team captured beautiful smiles and enchanting moments, ensuring that the session concluded on a high note.

Yoga @ SAM continues to empower students, equipping them with valuable tools to navigate the stresses of exams and cultivate overall well-being.
